1. Admission

What is the application period and examination schedule?

You can select the program that you wish to apply here. Application and examination dates are subject to change, so please be sure to check the latest information for the year of application.

When will the application guidelines for the year be posted on the website?

Please check here for the timing of the previous year’s publication. It basically will be posted at the same time as the previous year.

Do I need to contact an academic supervisor at Kyushu University before applying?

It is required for graduate school admissions. Please ask in advance to the prospective supervisor of your choice to make sure that they are able to accept new students.

<Graduate School of Mathematics>

If you are interested in enrolling at the Graduate School of Mathematics and not acquainted with your prospective supervisor, use the Pre-admission Support Desk (PSD) to contact the supervisor. Do not send your resume or documents directly to the supervisor.

<Graduate School of Science, Graduate School of Systems Life Sciences>

If you are applying to the Graduate School of Science or the Graduate School of Systems Life Sciences, please use the PSD rather than sending your resume and other materials directly to your supervisor if he or she instructs you to use the PSD.

Where can I find the information on the supervisor’s contact details and field of research?

Are there any science-related programs offered in English?

Although there are no undergraduate-level programs at the School of Science, many international programs in English are provided at the graduate level. Please refer to the following websites for detailed program descriptions.

What is the minimum score on the English examination (e.g., TOEFL) required in the application for the international programs?

There is no specific minimum score for the application. However, sufficient English proficiency is required as classes are conducted in English.

Regarding a Certificate of English Language Test (TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, etc.), I am an English-speaking national, but do I need a certificate to prove my English proficiency?

A certificate of English proficiency is required even if you are an English-speaking national. Please be sure to consult with the Student Support Section (rixgksien@jimu.kyushu-u.ac.jp) in advance in case the document cannot be published.

What should I do if I cannot obtain the certificates (certificate of completion, transcripts, etc.) in time for the application period?

Applications must be submitted during the application period, so please prepare well in advance to submit them in time.

(Successful applicants) What should I do about procedures of VISA and on-campus dormitory?

Successful applicants are going to receive an email from International Student Exchange Division within one month after the announcement of your acceptance. Please click here for the process.

2. Financial Aid

Are there any scholarships that I can apply prior to enrollment?

Most scholarships at Kyushu University can only be applied for after enrollment. However, please note that not all applicants will necessarily receive a scholarship. For more details on Tuition Exemption and the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarships, kindly click here.

Where can I find the information about the scholarship?

Information for the various scholarships is available on this website. The scholarship information is added and updated as needed.

Are there any full scholarships available?

Currently, no full scholarships are available besides the MEXT scholarship.
